Western and Southern Open

From 64 men and 56 women, the field has now men narrowed to 8 each. Earlier today the final matches of the round of 16 were played.  Here are the results.

Men's Singles

There are two winners to note in the draw as some what surprising.

In the less surprising of the two, the 10 seed Novak Djokovic defeated the 5 seed Grigor Dimitrov 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. This match started Thursday night before rain would force play to be suspended until Friday afternoon. Djokovic, who was struggling before the rain delay seemed to turn it on come Friday.

The other upset was the 11 seed David Goffin sending the 6 seed Kevin Anderson to New York early in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. For Goffin, that makes three tough matches in a row beating the up and coming Stefanos Tsitsipas, Benoit Paire, and Kevin Anderson to reach the quarterfinals. This match was originally the late match last night, but was among those moved to this morning for rain.
