JJ Wolf’s run to qualify for the Western and Southern Open came to an end Sunday in close defeat to Marius Copil of Romania 6-4 7-6 (5)
In a match that saw both men hold serve almost the entire match, Copil took command in the second set tie breaker to send the young Cincinnati native home early.
Wolf looked posed to take the second set after going up 5-4 with the game score being 30-15. After that the 20 years old started over hitting, sending shot long of the baseline. JJ would drop the game. He would hold serve to make it 6-5 but could not break and sent the game to a tie breaker. Copil took full control in the tie breaker going up 4-1 early. Wolf would only score 1 more point and double fault the final 2 points.
Copil will move on to the main draw to face an opponent to be determined after all qualifiers are complete.
