Five years into her acting career, Cameron Diaz was given a hilarious script that she simply could not refuse.
The Mask actress recently sat down with Vogue, revealing that 1998 romcom Something About Mary had her laughing so hard she literally fell out of bed.
"The first time I read the script I literally fell of my bed laughing."
She continued, detailing the scene that ultimately convinced her to do the movie.
"There's this description in the scene where my brother, [W. Earl Brown], literally punches [Matt Dillon] in the throat. For some reason the thought of him punching him in the throat was the funniest thing to me. I started laughing so hard I literally fell off the bed, and knew I had to do the movie."
Per IMDB, the highly-acclaimed film (that went on to win 17 awards) follows "A man that gets a chance to meet up with his dream girl from high school, even though his date with her back then was a complete disaster."
According to Entertainment Weekly, Something About Mary turned out to be the highest-grossing comedy film of 1998 and "the year's fourth highest-grossing film overall." Diaz skyrocketed to stardom following its release and went on to front other iconic titles like The Holiday, The Other Woman, My Best Friends Wedding, and The Sweetest Thing, to name only a few.
