It's no secret that as you get older, some existential crisis type thoughts can creep in — and it has for Nicole Kidman.

The actress, 57, opened up about a number of topics in a new interview with GQ Magazine, and told the publication that she thinks about mortality and life, as it relates to the passing of her parents, her children growing up, and more of life's milestones, and it's caused her emotions to be "more so now" close to the surface. She told GQ:

"Mortality. Connection. Life coming and hitting you. And loss of parents and raising children and marriage and all of the things that go into making you a fully sentient human. I’m in all of those places. So life is, whew. It’s definitely a journey. And it hits you as you get older how –' she takes a sharp, dramatic breath '– it’s a wake up at 3am crying and gasping kind of thing. If you're in it and not numbing yourself to it. And I’m in it. Fully in it."

Kidman has lost both of her parents, her mother, Janelle Kidman, most recently back in September. She shares two daughters, Sunday Rose (16) and Faith Margaret (13) with her husband of 18 years, Keith Urban. She also shares two kids with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, Bella (31) and Connor (29).
