PHOTOS: 2025 Cincinnati Open Quarterfinals Zverev vs Shelton

The final men's quarterfinal match of the 2025 Cincinnati Open featured 2 of the tours young bright stars. World #3 Alexander 'Sascha' Zverev of Germany took on world #6 American Ben Shelton both trying to move one step closer to hoisting the Rookwood trophy.

For Zverev the road after his 1st round bye saw him beat American Nishesh Basavareddy in the 2nd round, American Brandon Nakashima in the 3rd round, and Russian Karen Khachanov in the round of 16.

For Shelton coming off the Masters 1000 title in Toronto, after his 1st round bye, he defeated Camilo Ugo Carabelli of Argentina in the 2nd round, Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain in the 3rd round, and Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic in the round of 16.

While this match may have been billed as a heavyweight fight, it did not meet it's expectations. Both players looked tired, and at one point Zverev had to call the trainers out for an illness. It was Shelton though who had the worst of it, making many errors and struggling with his serve. It would only take Zverev 1 hour and 16 minutes to send the Canada champ home.

Alexander 'Sascha' Zverev defeats Ben Shelton 6-2,6-2.

Zverev will play Spain's Carlos Alcaraz for a shot at the finals on Saturday.
